Curfew was reimposed in the north Kashmir town of Handwara on Monday following fresh protests and stone pelting. The authorities had lifted curfew restrictions for three hours.
Protesters raised anti-India slogans and threw stones at security forces. “The curfew was immediately imposed in Handwara,” said a senior police official.

The nearby Kupwara town was also tense but no clashes were reported.
Students of the Kashmir University in Srinagar and the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) in Awantipora also held demonstrations on Monday.
However, normality is returning elsewhere in the Kashmir Valley and Internet restrictions were lifted in the morning.
The students were protesting the killing of five civilians in firing by security forces since Tuesday last. The students of IUST tried to hit the streets but were stopped. They also raised anti-India slogans and demanded action against those responsible for the civilian deaths.
The Valley was on the edge following the killing of three civilians during a demonstration in Handwara on April 12. Protests were sparked by alleged molestation of a girl by Army men. However, the girl has denied that she was molested or harassed by security personnel.
Two more incidents of firing later last week, left two more civilians dead in Kupwara during demonstrations. The cycle of violence stopped on Saturday.
An inquiry is on to look into the Handwara killings and a report will be submitted within 30 days.
