Congress to contest all 243 seats on its own: BPCC chief

May 03, 2010 07:12 pm | Updated 07:12 pm IST - Patna

The rift within the opposition Congress in Bihar came to the fore on Monday with BPCC president Anil Sharma announcing that the party would contest all the 243 seats in the coming assembly elections on its own without consulting his bete noire and in-charge of Bihar affairs Jagdish Tytler.

There was no need to consult any party leader including Tytler, as AICC president Sonia Gandhi was the final authority to take a decision about the candidates, Mr. Sharma told newsmen here.

The committee of the state PCC would prepare a list of seven possible candidates from a constituency representing students wing, women, other backward castes and extremely backward castes.
