The CBI has booked Chhattisgarh Principal Secretary (Higher Education) B.L. Agrawal and two others, including a person who claimed to be with the Prime Minister’s Office, for allegedly conspiring to bribe public servants to get relief in two other cases earlier registered by the agency against him.
The CBI had registered the two cases against Mr. Agrawal in 2010 when he was the Health Secretary in the Chhattisgarh government. In one of the cases the agency has filed a charge sheet, while in the other a probe continues.
The fresh FIR said Mr. Agrawal contacted Bhagwan Singh, a resident of Greater Noida in U.P., to help get relief in the CBI cases. On February 11, Mr. Bhagwan Singh arranged a meeting with a resident of Telangana, Syed Burhanuddin, who claimed that he was with the PMO and that he would help settle the cases for ₹1.5 crore. Mr. Agrawal paid ₹15 lakh as first instalment. Part of the money was to bribe public servants, the CBI charged.
