Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday asked the State government employees to call off their agitation in the greater interest of the State and its people.
Terming the agitation unjustified in the light of the constitution of an Anomalies Committee to look into the grievances raised by employees’ organisations, the Chief Minister said he would hold discussions with the organisations after the panel’s report.
“Let the Anomalies Committee submit its report first. If the employees’ organisations are not happy even after that, then I will hold talks with them to sort out the matter amicably,” stated an official release quoting the Chief Minister.

Hundreds of employees affiliated to the Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) staged a sit-in at Dispur from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, demanding immediate removal of the “anomalies” in the report of the Sixth Pay Commission headed by retired bureaucrat Bhaskar Barua.
The employees’ body launched an agitation from January 6 in protest against the government “going back” on its promises to pay salaries to its employees on a par with the Central government employees.
