The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) have agreed to map industrial growth and corresponding skill requirement over the next 10 years for Goa.
Trade and industry representatives gave this assurance to the State government here recently at the first meeting of the State Skill Development Mission, formed under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Digambar Kamat.
The mission is formed to devise and monitor skill development. The first meeting of the Skill Development Mission was chaired by Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivatsava.

Mr. Srivatsava urged the trade and industry bodies to make skill gap analysis so that short-term courses can be devised to bridge the gap.
The Directorate-General of Employment and Training under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Union government, in pursuance of excellence in vocational training, has developed a new strategic framework for skill development in consultation with industry, State governments and experts.
“Skill development is concerned with imparting acquisition of knowledge, skill and attitudes. Skill development contributes to enhancing individual’s employability and ability to adapt to changing technologies and labour market demands, thereby improving living standards of the common man, productivity and competitiveness,” said Rajeev Verma, Secretary (Craftsmen Training), Goa. He gave an overview of the Skill Development Mission.

Mr. Srivatsava has emphasised that dropouts, who have passed class V/VI/VII, can avail themselves of this opportunity to develop their skills through Skill Development Initiative Scheme of the Central government which offers around 1,500 short-term courses. Existing skills of individuals can be certified under this scheme.
