For the first time a senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the Saradha scam.
Rabin Deb, a State Secretariat member of the CPI(M) and a former MLA, has been summoned by the CBI as a witness in the case.

Mr. Deb is the first senior Left leader to be summoned by the CBI in connection with the multi-crore scam.
Though Mr. Deb has been asked to appear before the CBI on Thursday, according to sources, he may not appear before the central agency during the day. Mr. Deb has reportedly told the people close to him that he will appear before the agency in the next few days.
According to sources Mr. Deb’s name surfaced while questioning a bureaucrat-turned-businessman who used to own media houses in Kolkata.
One more Trinamool MP summoned
Meanwhile, another All India Trinamool Congress MP, Subhendu Adhikari, has been summoned by the CBI. Mr. Adhikari, an MP from Tamluk in Purba Mednipur district, however, denied receiving any summons from the CBI. Suspended Trinamool MP Kunal Ghosh has taken Mr. Adhikari’s name in connection with the scam in 2013 and he in turn had filed a defamation case against Mr. Ghosh.
Four MPs of the ruling Trinamool Congress has been questioned by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the scam that surfaced in the West Bengal in April 2013.
