The Maharashtra Assembly on Saturday admitted a breach of privilege notice against actor Anupam Kher for his remarks which reportedly abused the Constitution and challenged the authority of the Assembly.
National Congress Party member Jitendra Avhad raised objections to Mr. Kher's statement against the Constitution aired on television on Friday itself. Speaker Dilip Walse Patil had ordered the Home Department to examine the actor's statement and take action, if necessary. On Saturday, Mr. Avhad said Mr. Kher had further remarked that he did not care about what happened in the Assembly. He demanded that a breach of privilege notice be sent to the actor. The Speaker agreed to his demand that the statements of members be accepted as a breach of privilege notice against Mr. Kher and asked for the matter to be given in writing.
A notice would be sent to Mr. Kher to which he had to submit a reply, said BJP MLA and party State chief Sudhir Mungantiwar. Members of all parties, including the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, supported the demand to serve notice on Mr. Kher.
