Rescue personnel on Tuesday managed to retrieve the body of a 21-year-old engineering student, a resident of Mulund in Mumbai, who drowned near the Temghar dam reservoir on Sunday morning, about 50 km from here.
A team of jawans from the Fire Services recovered the body of Animesh Ghosh in the afternoon from the reservoir near the KT (Kolhapur-Type) weir at Khadakwadi near the Temghar Dam.
Since Monday, Rescue personnel and private volunteers had mounted a search operation since Monday to trace the missing youth. According to the Paud police, Animesh had gone with a group to Lonavla to celebrate the birthday of one of their friends on Saturday. They apparently partied all through the night and decided to head for Lavasa in the wee hours of Sunday to watch the sunrise.

Ghosh, along with some friends, had started climbing a hillock along the K-T weir at Khadakwadi (on the Temghar reservoir), when he allegedly slipped and fell into the water.
Unfortunately, the group did not alert the police immediately. They decided to go to Mumbai and then inform Animesh’s parents about the incident several hours later.
“Though he was feared swept away around 7.30 a.m. on Sunday, his companions informed his parents about the incident only in the evening, causing a delay of several precious hours,” said Vishambhar Golde, Paud police station inspector.

The boy’s parents and family friends rushed to the spot and launched a search operation with the aid of the police and fire personnel.
