The BSP on Wednesday moved a petition before Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey for disqualification of rebel party leader Swami Prasad Maurya from the membership of the House after he quit the party.

In the petition moved by newly-elected BSP Legislature Party leader Gaya Charan Dinkar, the party cited the announcement made by Mr. Maurya in a press conference on June 22 and subsequent actions which proved that he on his own had quit the party, a BSP release issued here said.

Citing various rules, the party said Mr. Maurya is no longer qualified to be a member of the BSP as he quit the party by will and so he should be disqualified from the membership of the State Assembly from June 22 and facilities enjoyed by him as MLA and emoluments given to him be withdrawn from that very date.
