BSNL to stop pre-paid service in J&K

Public sector mobile service provider BSNL, on Saturday, said it is going to stop the pre-paid mobile services in Jammu and Kashmir from Sunday, as per the policy of the government of India.

However, pre-paid mobile services could be converted to post-paid connections, a spokesman of BSNL said on Saturday.

He said, two new Customer Service Centre (CSC) will be opened at Kupwara and Dalgate in Srinagar, for converting pre-paid connections into post-paid connections, in addition to the existing CSC at Pulwama, Anantnag and Baramulla.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday said, it would take up the issue of ban on pre-paid mobiles with the the Union Home Ministry, to ensure that genuine users do not suffer and security is not compromised.

Additional staff is being posted at the centres, who will work in three shifts, to convert all the pre-paid mobile numbers (about three lakh in Srinagar) into post-paid ones, the spokesperson said.
