Asom Gana Parishad snaps poll ties with BJP

The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad has decided to snap poll ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party and signalled a revival of its past poll tie-up with the Left by extending its support for Tuesday's 12-hour nationwide general strike and hartal called by the Left parties against price hike.

The AGP Steering Committee decided to extend full support to the call jointly given by the State units of five parties — the CPI(M), CPI, RSP, JD(S) and the SP — for observance of the general strike in Assam.
