Arjun Singh's son made M.P. CLP leader

The Congress on Wednesday named Ajay Singh, son of late Congress leader Arjun Singh, as the Madhya Pradesh Legislature Party leader.

The post was lying vacant for over six months since Jamuna Devi's death.

Mr. Singh, a five-time MLA from Sidhi, was a strong contender for the post along with the party's Deputy Leader in the State Assembly, Rakesh Chaudhury.

A four-time MLA, Mr. Choudhury was appointed the acting CLP leader in November last after death of Jamuna Devi, 81, in September last.

Union Minister Kantilal Bhuria was named Pradesh Congress Committee chief in the place of Suresh Pachauri.

Meanwhile, party president Sonia Gandhi has approved the candidature of the former Maharashtra Governor, S.C. Jamir, for the by-election to the Aonglenden (ST) Assembly constituency in Nagaland on May 7, a release said.
