9000 litres of synthetic milk confiscated in UP

In a major crackdown on the gangs dealing in the manufacture and sale of adulterated and spurious milk, milk cream, ghee and cheese, particularly in Western Uttar Pradesh, about 30 persons were arrested from five districts in the State. According to the police, the spurious and adulterated material was being used for making sweetmeats multiplies on the eve of Deepawali.

A major catch was the arrest of seven persons under the Hapur Dehat police circle area in Ghaziabad district late on Tuesday night. About 80 quintals of adulterated cheese was seized by the police. Nine others were arrested by the police from near the Sardar Nagar village under the Bhamaura police station area in Bareilly district late on Tuesday night when the security personnel intercepted a utility vehicle.

About two quintals of adulterated cheese and 135 kilogram of spurious milk cream was seized from them.

Nine persons were arrested from a house in Tikri village in Meerut district, who were caught red handed while manufacturing spurious “ khoya”. Ten quintals of spurious “khoya”, 45 litres of oil and 3 bags of milk powder was seized from the accused.

In Etah district, the police seized about 9000 litres of synthetic milk, bottles of detergent and refined oil from two places on Wednesday. Three persons were arrested for their complicity in the crime.

Another big catch was reported from Sikandrabad in Bulandshahr district on Wednesday where one person was arrested for trying to smuggle about 26,000 litres of mustard oil by using fake labels. The catch was made when the police raided Shri Ram Traders and Oil Manufacturers in Sikandrabad. The unit is owned by one Rajiv Goyal.

The ADG (Law and Order) I, Brij Lal told reporters here on wednesday that apart from being booked under the Gangster’s Act, the accused persons would also be booked under Section 272 of IPC which deals with adulteration.
