7-year-old raped in running train in Bilaspur

A seven-year-old girl was raped in a running train and dumped near a market in Bilaspur city. The girl was profusely bleeding at the time she was spotted by the locals and was handed her over to the police.

The girl was admitted to Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) in Bilaspur, but it took the district administration three to four hours to grant the necessary permission to the doctors to operate upon the child. While the girl continues to be under intensive care, her condition is reportedly stable, hospital sources told The Hindu .

The girl was travelling in Kurla-Howrah Express on Friday night. Little after midnight, when she went to the toilet the accused followed her. Once she reached the toilet door, the accused forcibly pushed her inside, locked the door and raped her, police sources said. The incident took place between midnight and early Saturday morning, and the passengers in the compartment were asleep.

Later, the accused alighted from the train at Uslapur station, wrapped the girl in a piece of cloth and dumped her near Shanichari Market in Bilaspur.

Several senior police officers have been pressed into action and an award of Rs. 25,000 has been announced for information leading to arrest of the accused.
