49 persons taken ill due to food poisoning in Jharkhand

At least 49 persons, including 30 kids, were taken ill after eating chaat from a roadside vendor at Dhokhara village, about 15 km away from district headquarters here yesterday.

Superintendent of Pataliputra Medical College Hospital (PMCH) Dr Arun Kumar Chaudhary said that while 29 of them were released late last night, 20 of them were under observation.

Four children whose condition was stated to be critical last night were now out of danger, he said.

According to police, the affected persons had consumed ’Golgappa’ and chhat from a roadside vendor in the evening.

Within two hours, all of them began vomiting and complained of severe stomach pain.

Forty-seven of them were admitted at PMCH and two others at a primary health centre (PHC) at Baliapur.

A senior doctor at PMCH Dr U S Prasad said all of them were suffering from de—hydration and they were administered saline and antibiotics.
