Shun ‘primitive forms’ of stir, LDF told

September 07, 2013 12:25 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 01:54 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has alleged that the Left Democratic Front’s ongoing agitation against the government on the solar scam has crossed all limits of democracy and called upon the Opposition to give up such “primitive forms” of agitations.

Addressing a press conference soon after a leadership meeting of KPCC office-bearers and District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents here on Friday, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala said neither can such agitations undermine the functioning of an elected government nor can it help the LDF reap political gains.

Throwing rotten eggs, imposing blockades, and waving black flags were primitive methods. If the objective is to unsettle an elected government, the United Democratic Front (UDF) will strongly respond to it, but not through violence, he said.

In reply to a question, Mr. Chennithala said the meeting had decided to conduct a series of campaign to explain the UDF’s and the Congress’ position with regard to the LDF agitation on the solar scam. The meeting gave a clarion call to party workers to start preparing for the Lok Sabha elections. The KPCC executive will be reconstituted soon after Onam, followed by the revamp of DCCs and mandalam and block committees.
