The industrialist questions ADGP’s statement in an affidavait

R. Sreedharan Nair says the police are creating unnecessary controversies by misrepresenting facts.

Industrialist R. Sreedharan Nair, who had filed a cheating case before the Judicial First Class Magistrate here against Lakshmi Nair alias Saritha S. Nair of Team Solar, has questioned Additional Director General of Police A. Hemachandran’s statement in an affidavit filed before the Kerala High Court on Thursday.

Talking to The Hindu here, Mr. Nair (of Mallelil Industries in Konni) said that whatever facts he had stated in his statement made before the Judicial First Class Magistrate in Ranni, under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, on July 6 were absolutely true. According to him, he had never given any signed statement other than the one given before the Ranni court. ‘‘If the police say that I had not given any statement against the Chief Minister in connection with the solar case, I should say that it is absolutely false,’’ he said.

Mr. Nair said the police were creating unnecessary controversies by misrepresenting facts. His statement before the Ranni court should be made public so as to avoid controversies.

Mr. Nair said the police had summoned him to the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police at Chengannur and asked him to produce his mobile phone for detailed examination in the first week of August. To a question whether he had to say anything else on the case, Mr. Nair said he had clearly stated all what he wanted to say in the statement given under Section 164 of the Cr.PC. The ADGP’s statement would only complicate the case, he said.

The case he filed before the Pathanamthitta court was only a cheating case. The police had complicated the case by adding impersonation and conspiracy charges to it, Mr. Nair said.

Asked whether he had got any opportunity to discuss the matter with Mr. Chandy, Mr. Nair said certain people who stood around the Chief Minister prevented him from discussing the matter with him. ‘‘Had the Chief Minister talked to him about it then, the case would have been settled amicably. But somehow, the Chief Minister failed to realise the gravity of the issue,’’ he added.
