CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday demanded an inquiry into the disclosures of Prasanth Babu, former driver of Congress MP K. Sudhakaran, that Mr. Sudhakaran was the conspirator behind certain violent incidents, including shooting of CPI(M) leader E.P. Jayarajan and a bomb attack on a hotel in Kannur.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Vijayan said the attack on Mr. Jayarajan should be re-investigated in view of the disclosures of Mr. Babu, who had been the Kannur block secretary of the Congress. Mr. Babu should be given protection as his life was at risk.

He said Mr. Babu had stated that Mr. Sudhakaran had engaged quotation gangs for the attacks and the police had registered cases on the basis of a list of accused supplied by Mr. Sudhakaran against Congress workers. The conspiracy to murder Mr. Jayarajan was allegedly hatched at the residence of Mr. Sudhakaran.

The driver had said that he had brought the quotation gang in a car for the bomb attack, which killed a hotel worker Nanu and injured others, including a Congress worker and a relative of a Muslim League leader. Mr. Sudhakaran had been behind the attack on the son of the president of the Cooperative Press at Thalassery, Mr. Babu said. These disclosures should be taken seriously as Mr. Babu was close to Mr. Sudhakaran, which had been confirmed by former DCC president P. Ramakrishnan.

Mr. Vijayan added that the UDF government had been protecting Mr. Sudhakaran despite allegations against him. In the case of the attack on Mr. Jayarajan, Mr. Sudhakaran was saved because of pressure of the Congress on the Andhra police, which had investigated the case.

Contradicting Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan’s stand on the murder of RMP leader T.P. Chandrasekharan, the State secretary said no one would believe that the party had a role in the murder.
