Rape case convict Bitti Mohanty was remanded in judicial custody for two weeks by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court at Payyannur here on Monday. He was produced before the court by the Rajasthan police.
He has been facing investigation after he was arrested from here on March 8 on charges of forgery and impersonation.
The police said he had been working as a probationary officer at the Pazhayangadi branch of State Bank of Travancore under the fake name of Raghav Rajan at the time of his arrest. The police said that before joining the bank he had completed MBA in a college here under the same fake name after he jumped parole in 2006 while undergoing a seven-year jail sentence in Rajasthan in the case of rape of a German national.

The police here had handed him over to the Rajasthan police on May 25 in connection with the probe into the parole jumping case. Nicholas Joseph, advocate appearing for Bitti, said the court remanded him in custody in the sub jail here till October 21.

Magistrate A.K. Vidyadharan also ordered that notice be served on Bitti’s parents, seeking their consent on getting the DNA test done, which is required to confirm the identity of Raghav Rajan as Bitti.
Bitti was produced by the Rajasthan police following two production warrants and a show cause notice. The Rajasthan police had cited shortage of personnel for escort as the reason for the delay, he said.
The prosecution has been demanding DNA test to confirm his identity as he continues to maintain that he is Raghav Rajan and not Bitti.
