Communist Marxist Party (CMP) leader and former Minister M.V. Raghavan has called for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the Paul Muthoot murder case.
Mr. Raghavan told journalists here on Saturday that the ongoing investigation was yet to unravel the mystery.
Only an external agency like the CBI could zero in on the perpetrators and find the truth, he said, adding that

Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan himself had underlined the importance of special investigation through his announcement of a detailed probe by a special investigation team (SIT).
However, the probe by SIT headed by Inspector General Vinson M. Paul would serve no purpose, Mr. Raghavan said, as there were several doubts about it.
The CMP leader said the disparity between the statement given by Paul's driver Shibu in which he said that Paul had been a victim of animosity, and the police version which found that the murder was not planned had raised doubts about the probe in the public mind.

The fact that the murder had taken place within seven minutes, the arrest of some of the accused within 24 hours and the parading of Kari Satheeshan before the media as the killer also raised several questions about the factors involved in the murder, he said.
He termed as evasive Mr. Balakrishnan's reaction to the allegations about his son's ‘links’ with the two wanted men who had reportedly travelled with Paul the day he was murdered and ‘tried to destroy evidence.’ Mr. Raghavan said the people were scared about the reports of 'goonda raj' in the State.
