Chairman of D. Devaraja Urs Backward Classes Development Corporation, Ramachandrappa said that they are planning to bring a new project for the youth in rural areas to empower them financially and to prevent them from migrating to the cities from their villages.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Ramachandrappa said that in order to prevent the youth from migrating to cities, they are planning to form youth groups called ‘Yuva Shakthi Sanga’ in the villages like that of Stree Shakthi Sanga which was done by former Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna to empower women socially and economically.
A group of 10-15 youths can form a Sanga and a base amount ranging from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 50,000 will be given to each Youth group to enable them to take up jobs like providing safe drinking water to people in rural areas at a nominal price, to purchase the groceries and other essential commodities like soaps, toothpaste in bulk and to sell them at retail price in the villages.

The report on the new project will be submitted to the State government and the project Yuva Shakthi Sanga will be announced in the coming budget and funds will be allocated for the project.
He further said that there are around 27,000 villages in the state where the youth groups are formed.
He said there is shortage of funds and staff in the corporation. He said out of 200 posts only 60 are filled and remaining 140 posts are vacant. He said the finance department has given approval for filling 75 posts and the process of appointment for 75 posts will begin shortly.
