A young man and woman, who were in love and planning to get married, attempted suicide by consuming poison here on Monday, following opposition to their inter-religious marriage from their families.
Hisbulla (23) and Sushma (19), both from Shivamogga, attempted suicide in a house at Bagadera Koplu in Hassan, where the young man was living for the past six months.
Hisbulla had moved to Hassan and had taken up paint jobs in the town. Sushma reached Hassan on Sunday and stayed with Hibsulla in his room.

The incident came to light when Hisbulla’s neighbours found them suffocating after consuming poison. They were immediately shifted to Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences. Pension Mohalla Police have taken their statements and registered a case.
