The activists of Youth Congress staged a protest in the city on Wednesday demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the Vyapam scam.

Addressing the protest meet, M. Praveen Kumar, district unit president of the Youth Congress, said that as many influential persons were involved in the scam, a probe by the CBI monitored by the Supreme Court was necessary to bring out the truth.

He said that 48 persons connected with the scam have died under mysterious circumstances in the past two years. Even the whistle blowers in the case have said that they were facing a threat to their life.

It is unfortunate that Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan has failed to take measures to prevent the deaths, he said.

The Special Investigation Agency appointed by the Madhya Pradesh government has also said that the death of many persons related to the scam was “unnatural”, he pointed out. The protesters later burnt an effigy of Mr. Chouhan. Member of Shivamogga City Corporation H.C. Yogish, and functionaries of Youth Congress H.P. Girish and Ranganath took part in the protest.
