Yeshwantpur-Karwar train on new line from June 1

The tri-weekly express will run on the new Bengaluru-Hassan line, reducing about an hour of the journey time and 33 km of the distance

With the diversion, there will be services on the Bengaluru-Hassan railway line for six days a week.

The Yeshwantpur-Karwar day train will soon operate on the newly commissioned Bengaluru-Hassan line.

When South Western Railway diverts Yeshwantpur-Karwar-Yeshwantpur Tri-Weekly Express via Shravanabelagola from June 1, the total services on the line will thus become six days a week, including the tri-weekly services of Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction-Yeshwantpur Express.

The Hindu that the Karwar day train now runs via Tumakuru and Arsikere to reach Hassan traversing 207 km in four hours.

Upon its diversion via Shravanabelagola, the distance comes down to 174 km and the running time to three hours.

The Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee of SWR had recently approved the proposal to divert the Karwar train via the shortest route and the Railway Board has approved the same, sources said.

New timings of the diverted services are being worked out, they added.

Since the Karwar train will now run on the path of Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction tri-weekly service, one could expect the same timing to be followed.

The Mangaluru Junction service leaves Yeshwantpur on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.50 a.m. to reach Hassan at 10.55 a.m. and Mangaluru Junction at 5.30 p.m. Karwar Express presently leaves Yeshwantpur at 7 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to reach Hassan 10.53 a.m., Mangaluru Junction at 5.40 p.m. and Karwar at 11 p.m.

In the return trip, Karwar-Yeshwantpur Express leaves Karwar on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 5.30 a.m. to reach Mangaluru Junction at 10.50 a.m., Hassan at 4.50 p.m. and Yeshwantpur at 10 p.m.

The Mangaluru Junction-Yeshwantpur Express leaves Junction on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11.30 a.m. to reach Hassan at 4.50 pm and Yeshwantpur at 8.30 p.m.

As a prelude to diversion of the train, the SWR has already suspended advance reservation on this service.
