Taking exception to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s remarks against Bharatiya Janata Party’s national president Amit Shah, the party’s state president B.S. Yeddyurappa has threatened to file a defamation case against him (Mr. Siddaramaiah) if he fails to apologise within three days.
Addressing a Congress workers’ meeting recently in Hassan, Mr. Siddaramaiah had remarked: “Mr. Amit Shah is an accused in a murder case and he would have been in jail had the NDA had not come to power at the centre.”
Expressing anger over such remarks, Mr. Yeddyurappa told reporters in Bengaluru that the Supreme Court had already cleared Mr. Shah in the case. It was irresponsible on the part of the Chief Minister to make such remarks, he said and added that he would initiate legal action if Mr. Siddaramaiah failed to apologise within three days.

Mr. Yeddyurappa announced his plans to seek legal remedy at a programme organised by the party as part of the “Vistharaka” programme of camping in different areas to create awareness about the party ideology in Sampangiramanagara, where he visited the residences of a few families from backward class communities.
