Former Chief Minister and national vice-president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), B.S. Yeddyurappa and Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council, K.S. Eshwarappa, have come down heavily on the Congress Government in the State for tabling the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill in the recently concluded session of State Legislature.
“Owing to the severe opposition from the religious heads and from common people, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced to withdraw the Bill. The move to table the Bill has exposed the anti-Hindu stand of Mr. Siddaramaiah,” Mr. Yeddyurappa told presspersons here on Thursday.
BJP would launch a State-wide campaign against the efforts by the Congress Government to meddle in the administration of the maths. The Governments that have governed the State in the past have never tried to interfere in the administration of the maths. The Congress Government has shown disregard for the religious sentiments of the people by tabling the Bill. The popularity of Congress Government would take a dip owing to this misadventure, he said.

Speaking at a programme organised to kick-start the membership drive of BJP in the city later, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa said that the Congress Government in the State was playing with the religious sentiments of the people by tabling the Bill to control Hindu religious institutions, and by withdrawing the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill (2010) and Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation (Amendment) Bill 2012 in the recently concluded session of State Legislature.
