World Cancer Day: jatha taken out

Doctors, medical officers and students during a jatha in Ballari on Thursday.

Doctors, from the district hospital and members of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Ballari chapter, took out a jatha to create awareness about cancer as part of World Cancer Day here on Thursday.

Basareddi, district surgeon, and Shankar, president of IMA, flagged off the jatha.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shankar said that due to awareness, people getting treatment for cancer in the initial stage has been on the rise.

Ramaraju, an expert from Mumbai, said that two out of eight women are likely to suffer from breast cancer and underlined the need for women to carry out simple tests periodically.

Dr. (Ms) Vijaya Harsoor, Dr. Chandrashekar were among other senior doctors and medical officers present.
