A woman staged a protest demonstration outside her in-law’s house in Srinidhi Layout in Tumakuru on Tuesday demanding justice from her in-laws for dowry harassment. She was allegedly beaten up on Tuesday when she tried to enter her husband’s house.

According to District Secretary of Varadakshine Virodhi Vedike, S.C. Rajkumar, the woman, Nagamani of Kundarpi village in Anantpur district in Andhra Pradesh was married to T.G. Venkatesh, a resident of Srinidhi Layout on April 17, 2013 in Chitradurga.

At the time of marriage, Rs. 80,000 cash was given to the bridegroom and Rs. four lakh was spent on the wedding and gold jewellery by the bride's family.

According to the complaint, Nagamani was physically and mentally harassed by her in-laws, which included her husband's parents, sister and the sisters of her father-in-law, T.A. Gopinath.

Unable to bear the torture, Nagamani went to her parent's house at Hiriyur in Chitradurga. She then approached the Santhvana Kendra of Varadakshine Virodhi Vedike in December 2014 seeking reunion with her husband and his family, but in vain.

On Tuesday morning, when she went to her husband's house, she was allegedly told to get out and beaten up by her in-laws when she refused. Later, she staged ‘dharna’ outside the house demanding justice.
