Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara took a dig at Janata Dal (Secular) national president H.D. Deve Gowda at a press conference in Tumkur on Monday. Answering a query on Mr. Deve Gowda claiming that he had given approval for the women’s reservation bill when he was Prime Minister, Dr. Parameshwara hit back saying that as a former Prime Minister, his words would have been taken seriously and there was no need for him to shed tears. He could have spoken in favour of the women’s reservation bill in Parliament. If all parties had cooperated, the Union government would have passed the bill.
He went on to berate BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for speaking about Dalits and backward classes as part of the party’s strategy for the elections.
The Congress had already implemented several programmes for the welfare of Dalits and backward classes, he said.
