The former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday said he was committed to the idea of Karnataka having its own flag and he would impress upon the coalition government to re-send the proposal regarding the flag to the Centre along with the resolution passed in the 84th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana.
Mr. Siddaramaiah was responding to the issue raised by Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Manu Baligar during the sammelana here.
At the valediction function, Dr. Baligar said the previous Congress government unveiled the State flag for Karnataka after accepting recommendations of the nine-member flag committee.

The committee had recommended a tricolour flag with the State emblem — while white symbolises peace, yellow symbolises the auspiciousness and well being of Kannadigas, and red symbolises courage.
If the Centre approves the proposal, Karnataka would be the second State to have a flag after Jammu and Kashmir. The proposal is now with the Union Home Ministry and without the approval, Karnataka has no powers to announce its own flag.
Sources in the coalition government maintained that Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy did not believe that the unity of Akhanda Karnataka (undivided Karnataka) could be achieved by having a flag alone.
