The World Health Organisation (WHO) and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences have initiated steps to set up a public health institution to offer degree and certificate courses in public health and health sciences.
According to a press release from the varsity, the institution would also have a research and training centre to produce resource persons. These initiatives are a result of the discussions and deliberations held during an international consultant meet held here recently.
The ‘Bangalore Declaration’ aims to start a certificate course in public health and postgraduate courses in public health and health science.

While it is yet to be decided when the courses would be launched, experts from the WHO will visit RGUHS in July to discuss the setting up of the institute. The WHO would give the technical and operational assistance.
Foundation day
The varsity celebrated its foundation day on Saturday. Sriprakash K.S., Vice-Chancellor, RGUHS, said there had been proposals to blend e-learning with regular teaching in classrooms, clinics and community-based contexts. “We hope to draw assistance from the UGC and other agencies to support this initiative,” he added.
