The expectation was that the district would clinch the top position in the II PU exams as well. But the district is behind Dakshina Kannada by a mere 0.77 per cent.

R.B. Nayak, Deputy Director of Pre-University Department, told The Hindu that some colleges in Dakshina Kannada focused only on results.

Besides these colleges were attracting intelligent students from other parts of the State, which is not the case with Udupi district.

“Despite that, we will find out where we have been outclassed by Dakshina Kannada. We will find out the areas where we have to put in more efforts,” he said.

The Department has decided to lay the ground work for the next academic year immediately.

It will do a taluk-wise analysis and subject-wise analysis to improve the results.

The Department would hold regular meetings and check which colleges are lagging behind in the district.
