While the Kolar district administration is set to take up a drive to clear encroachments on tank-beds, it is unclear about what will happen to government buildings that have come up on such land.

There are at least a dozen government buildings that have been constructed on the bed of Amanikere (known as Kolaramma tank) in the city.

The buildings include the Government College for Women, a couple of hostels run by the Social Welfare Department and the aquarium of the Fisheries Department. In addition, a number of buildings, including Sri Devaraj Urs Bhavan, are under construction on the tank-bed area. These constructions along with private encroachments have resulted in the disappearance of most of the once-sprawling Kolaramma tank.
