Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa has said that BJP leaders will ask the Union government to intervene and get water released from Ujjani Dam in Maharashtra into the Bhima river course in Karnataka.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Eshawarappa said that earlier a delegation led by the former BJP State unit president Prahlad Joshi met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking release of water. He said that the lethargic attitude of the State government was the reason for the delay in getting water from Maharashtra.
Mr. Eshwarappa criticised Rural Development Minister H.K. Patil for failing to keep his lofty promises to set up 7,000 pure drinking water units in rural areas across the State within three years.

The government has distributed only 1,000 pure drinking water units in rural areas in the last three years, he said.
Criticising the government for claiming that 1,400 pure drinking water units had been distributed to villages, Mr. Eshwarappa said that an April 30 deadline has been given to the State government to release the list of villages where such drinking water units had set up.
