Welfare schemes not enough, security is important: Sadananda

January 28, 2014 03:09 pm | Updated May 13, 2016 12:54 pm IST - BANGALORE:

‘Badukuva Bhagya more important than Anna Bhagya’

Alleging that internal differences in the Congress had come in the way of effective maintenance of law and order and administration, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council D.V. Sadananda Gowdda on Monday said “it is not enough if the government launches a slew of welfare schemes like the Anna Bhagya, Ksheera Bhagya and Arogya Bhagya . It should also give ‘badukuva’ (life) ‘bhagya’ to people so that they can live to make use of these schemes”.

Initiating a debate in the Legislative Council on the alleged deterioration of the law and order situation and fear psychosis among people in the wake of increase in crimes in the State, the former Chief Minister alleged that the internal differences in the Congress and the indiscriminate transfers had affected the morale of the police and their efficiency.

He said nearly 1,600 police officials of various cadres, including 140 officers of the rank of DySP and Assistant Commissioners of Police had been transferred in 2013.

Alleging that 857 incidents of rape had been reported in 2013, he said mothers in the State were scared for the security of their daughters.

Accusing the State intelligence wing of failing to work effectively at a time when activities related to terrorism were increasing, he said this had given rise to security concerns.
