The four-day exhibition-cum-sale of handloom products organised with the main objective of helping handloom weavers by providing a market for their products began here on Thursday.
Representatives of weavers’ societies and individual weavers from as many as 14 States are participating in the event ‘Weaves’ being held at the Taj Gateway Hotel at Unakal. Response on the first day of the exhibition was good. The wide variety of handloom products, such as saris and cloth made of cotton and silk and a mix of both materials, attracted a respectable crowd.
Products of traditional silk varieties, such as Kanjeevaram, crepe silks, Dharmavaram, Uppadas, Pochampally silks, Narayanpet, Gadwals, Paithani, Banaras brocades, Jamdani, Jamawar, Patolas, Tussar, Eri, Muga and Kosa of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Assam and Chattisgarh, are on display at the exhibition.

The exhibition also has block and dabu prints from Rajasthan; Batiks from Madhya Pradesh; Kalamkaris from Andhra Pradesh; Kantha and block prints from West Bengal; Kasuti from Karnataka; and Kashida from Jammu and Kashmir.
Sarveshwar Reddy, managing director of Revathi Creative Communications, which organised the exhibition, told presspersons on Thursday that as part of their corporate social responsibility programmes they had organised the exhibition to provide a platform for weavers, enabling them to get good prices for their products.
He said as many as 50 stalls of handloom products with ethnic and contemporary designs were available at the exhibition. The expenses incurred from the arrangements were being shared by participating weavers’ societies. The expo is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will conclude on November 10.
