‘Waive nationalised bank loans’

Published - June 28, 2017 12:29 am IST -

The members of the district unit of the Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene took out a procession and staged a dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday urging the State government to waive loans taken by farmers in different nationalised banks across the State.

They took out a procession from B.R. Ambedkar Circle through the main streets of the city and to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. They raised slogans against the State and Union governments for the delay in waiving loans of farmers despite repeated appeals.

Though the State government has agreed to waive farm loans taken from co-operative banks, this will not bring farmers much relief. Instead, the Union government should waive loans taken from all nationalised banks in order to protect the interests of farmers who are in deep trouble owing to drought in the last four years.

They said that a rally would be organised on July 10 to pressure the governments to waive loans taken from nationalised banks.

Launching such an agitation has become inevitable as the governments are issuing false statements and holding each other responsible for not waiving loans.
