M.G. Krishnan, Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Open University, has defended his action of not allowing Qadar Pasha to assume charge as the Finance Officer of the university.
Prof. Krishnan said there was no vacancy for the post of Financial Officer and as per the University Act, the Vice-Chancellor should be taken into confidence while appointing any officer to the university. “If I allow him to take charge, the management will question me,” he said. Prof. Krishnan said the appointment of Mr. Pasha was not done by the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the university.
“The State government appointed him. But when there is no vacancy in the university, how can I allow him to take charge,” he asked. He said the post of Finance Officer had been filled by Basavarajaiah.

On repeated questions over his action of not permitting Mr. Pasha to report to duty, Prof. Krishnan said “Any appointment to the university must be made in consultation with the VC and here the government has not consulted me.”
He said he had acted as per the law.
