The veterinarians on Monday conducted a post-mortem of the tusker, which had been found dead on Sunday, reportedly owing to electrocution, at Guddadabeeranahalli in Tarikere taluk. So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the elephant’s death.
D. Manjuanth, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Bhadravati division, told The Hindu that the post-mortem was conducted and the carcass burnt.
“We have booked cases against Mescom and owners of the land. So far, we have not arrested anyone. Members of the land owner’s family are absconding,” he said.

A 25-year-old tusker had come in contact with a live electric wire near Guddadabeeranahalli while trying to enter a cotton field owned by Sridhar, a farmer.
The incident occurred in the Lakakvalli range of Bhadravati division of Forest Department.
