Veer Sangolli Rayanna Utsav to be held on Jan 12,13

The annual Sangolli Rayanna Prashasti will be given to retired Lt.Gen. Ramesh Halagali, Param Vishist Seva Medal winner of Vijayapura on the occasion of the two-day Veer Sangolli Rayanna Utsav to be held at Sangolli of Bailhongal taluk on Jan 12 and 13.

Announcing this here on Friday, Deputy Commissioner and Utsav Committee Chairman, N. Jayaram said the award had been instituted to publicly honour persons with distinguished services in their chosen fields. The award carried public felicitation but no cash reward. The award would be presented at the valedictory function of the Utsav on Jan 13.

Highlighting salient features of the Utsav, he said Kannada and Culture Minister, Umashree would symbolically inaugurate the festival at 7.30 p.m., while the cultural programmes would commence as per schedule at 5 p.m. on Jan12. In addition to various cultural programmes, folk arts and dramas had been slated for the festival. The department of information and public relations would arrange a laser show in the evenings. An exhibition of industrial and consumer products would also be organised. The government had released Rs.15 lakh for the two-day event.

All necessary arrangements, including drinking water and bus services would be made for the convenience of the visitors.

He said the district administration had acquired 12 acres 28 gunthas of land around the Samadhi to set up a residential sainik school and a rock garden so as to develop this historically significant place in the district as a tourist attraction. Sangolli, the native village of Rayanna was also being developed into a tourist attraction.
