Varsity to establish a lab to provide skill development

S. Jayanna, Vice-Chancellor (in-charge), Vijayanagar Sri Krishnadevaraya University, said that the varisty will establish a laboratory in its Commerce department to train students in various aspects including skill development and attitude building.

Speaking after inaugurating an export promotion cell and a seminar on ‘Export promotion’ organised by the Ballari District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in association with Vishweshwaraiah Trade Promotion Centre,Dharwad, here recently, Dr. Jayanna said that Ballari was blessed with natural resources and was well-known for its quality iron ore, ready-made garments, agricultural produce among other things.

Yet, the natural resources available were not fully utilised because the present-day education was limited to enriching the knowledge of the students but not towards skill development and attitude building. “This shortcoming is severely hampering the youths to become successful businessmen on one hand and also the economic development of the growth,” he said.

S.H. Veeranna, Joint Director, VTPC, explained the vast opportunities for people in various sectors, including agriculture and manufacturing, to take up exports. He also explained how to get assistance from the Central and the State governments and the advantages of becoming exporters and contributing towards the country’s growth and economy. Dr. Veeranna assured all assistanceto create awareness among the prospective exporters to emerge successful.
