Municipal Administration Minister Qamarul Islam said the process of filling up 33,000 vacant government posts in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region as decided in the Cabinet meeting held in Kalaburagi a few months ago has begun.
Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Qamarul said the Deputy Commissioners of all districts of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region have started the process of filling Group D posts and the list of the staff and officers due for promotion in the region has been submitted to the government.
He said that as per the high-level committee headed by Regional Commissioner Aditya Amlan Biswas which collected the details of the vacancies in all the government offices in the region, there were more than 33,000 posts vacant.

To a question, Mr. Qamarul said it had been decided to entrust the responsibility of selecting candidates for Group B and C posts to the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC). KPSC secretary Bharatlal Meena has been asked to complete the process of selection over a period of three months.
He assured that the government would strictly follow the reservation prescribed in Article 371 (J) while filling the vacant posts.
Referring to the stay order issued by the Karnataka High Court and Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) for extending reservation in promotions for government staff hailing from the Hyderabad-Karnataka region in the State Secretariat and other government departments, Mr. Qamarul, who is also the Chairman of the Hyderabad Karnataka Region Development Board, said the Board would implead itself as a party in the cases pending in the court and KAT, and move a petition to vacate the stay.

He said he would discuss the denial of eight per cent reservation to Hyderabad Karnataka students in private medical colleges outside the region with Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil. If needed, he would implead in the case and file a petition for vacating the stay.
