The University of Mysore (UoM) has taken steps to permit revaluation of answer sheets of the entrance examinations conducted for doctorate programmes of the university.
At the Academic Council meeting of UoM held at Crawford Hall on Wednesday, the authorities approved an amendment to the existing regulations to extend the provision of revaluation of answer scripts to PhD entrance exams, said acting Vice-Chancellor C. Basavaraju.
While 55% is the minimum marks to qualify in the entrance exams for students from the General category, it is 50% for applicants from SC/ST communities and Category 1, Dr. Basavarju said.

The move to permit revaluation comes after a number of students approached the university authorities with the request. Several students said they had missed out on qualifying by one or two marks.
The Academic Council also took up a demand by students belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) seeking a relaxation of 5% in the PhD entrance exam qualification cut-off. The council, however, ruled that it had no power to take a decision on this matter. But it promised to bring the demand to the government’s notice.
The Academic Council also approved the decision to hold a common entrance exam for 14 postgraduate courses, including Comparative Literature and Translation Studies, Co-operative Management Development Studies, Folklore, Jainology, Linguistics, West Asian Studies, Peace and Conflict Resolutions, Philosophy, South Indian Studies, Women Studies, Rural Development, International Relations, and Master of Information and Library Science.
