Yogi Adityanath, Mahant of Goraksha Peeth and Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Gorakhpur, has said that the Union government is committed to bringing in legislation to ban cow slaughter in the country.
Addressing the Virat Hindu Samavesh held as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) here on Sunday, he said the process of framing a law banning cow slaughter was under progress. Some States had already framed laws banning cow slaughter but a national law was yet to be framed, Adityanath said.
Terming continuation of cow slaughter and absence of a uniform civil code in post-Independent India as a disgrace, he said unless these two key issues were not addressed, there were no hopes of the country remaining united in future.

Those having no respect for ‘Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhan and Ek Pradhan’ (one flag, one constitution and one head) should leave this country and the VHP would arrange a farewell for such people, Adityanath said.
Taking a dig at those branding VHP as communal organisation, he said that those people did not know the correct meaning of communalism. The VHP was not indulging in anti-national or anti-social activities. Instead, it had been striving for bringing in unity among people belonging to different caste, regional and linguistic denominations. It was striving to eradicate evil practices and foster brotherhood in society. “How can such an organisation be called communal? The VHP will not be deterred by such comments and continue its work,” Adityanath said.
Earlier, VHP organising secretary Gopal said the State government had tried to create obstructions in the way of organising the convention in Hubballi. But the local police cooperated with it, he added.
