Admitting that the problem of unemployment has not yet been tackled as per people’s expectations, Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation D.V. Sadananda Gowda said that a Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) is under way to collect data on the number of unemployed persons in the country.

The Minister was addressing mediapersons through video-conference on his Ministry’s achievements over the last three years. “Unemployment has not been tackled as per expectations of the people. But several initiatives have been taken. Programmes like skill development and financing them through Mudra Yojana are some of the measures,” he said.

Mr. Gowda said that through the PLFS, the number of employed and unemployed persons can be gauged. “The process has started in Karnataka already,” said a source from the Ministry.
