‘Udupi students have done well in exams’

Vinay Kumar Sorake, Urban Development Minister, said on Saturday that Udupi district was on the top in the education sector and this had been recognised by the Union Ministry for Human Resource Development.

He was speaking after inaugurating the first floor of the Government First Grade College at Hiriyadka in Udupi district.

He also released a student handbook.

‘Smart college’

Mr. Sorake said that he would put in efforts to convert the college into a “smart college”.

The road from the national highway to the college would be asphalted and basic facilities would be provided.

Topped

The district topped the State in the SSLC exams and was in the second place in II PU results.

PU students from government colleges had performed well in the Common Entrance Test, Mr. Sorake said.

Shivamurthy Gowda H.K., Joint Director, Regional Office, Department of Collegiate Education, said it was a big challenge for government school and colleges to make low-scoring students to get good marks.

Good progress in education was possible only through hard work, he said.

Nataraj Hegde Palli, vice-president, College Development Committee; Vinod Kumar, member; Sunita Naik, president, Udupi Taluk Panchayat, and Suresh Nayak, president, Bommarbettu Gram Panchayat, and Padekallu Vishnu Bhat, principal of the college, were present at the function.
