Two more industrial estates to come up in Mysuru

Two new industrial lay outs will soon come up in Nanjangudu in Mysuru district to promote small and medium industries.

An industrial area in over 539 acres in Adakanahalli in Nanjangud taluk and another industrial area in over 96 acres in Kallahalli-Kottawadi in the same taluk will soon come up and the government has already approved the two industrial areas.

According to senior officials of the KIADB (Karnataka Industries’ Area Development Board) and the District Industries’ Centre, 195 industrial plots will be set up at Adakanahalli Industrial Layout, while 54 industrial plots are planned at the Kallahalli-Kottawadi industrial area. Once the plots are earmarked, they would be given to industrialists on concessional rates, officials said. There are eight industrial areas in the district and the addition of two more is expected to fulfil the demands of entrepreneurs seeking plots. Besides this, the KIADB is in the process of acquiring over 1,490 acres lands for industrial development. After acquiring the lands, industrial plots would be formed and distributed to industrial entrepreneurs.

Over 51 automobile, software and engineering-based major industries are in Mysuru, while there are over 20,175 small and medium industries in the district.

However, the Mysore Industries’ Association has opposed setting up of industrial lay-outs on Varuna Achacut. It said the government, through its agency (KAIDB) should not acquire irrigated and agricultural lands for industrial purposes. Suresh Kumar Jain, General Secretary of the association told The Hindu that he had information that most of the lands identified for the two industrial estates were on the Varuna achacut. He urged the authorities to get an Environment Impact Assessment report before setting up the industrial estates.“Do not acquire irrigated lands to favour certain industries,” he appealed to the government and said that there were abundant dry lands which could be acquired for industrial purposes.

Mr. Jain further said that many industrialists had deposited money in the range of Rs. 20 lakh to Rs. 2 crore seeking industrial plots about two years ago but were not yet allotted industrial plots. He said that the government should provide all basic amenities at the industrial estates so that industries would function efficiently without any hassle.
