Two Manipal youths launch app for Ramzan

Two youths from Manipal, Mohammed Yunus Rahmathullah Tonse (26) and Nihal Karkala (23), have launched an app called eRamadan that will cater to the religious needs during Ramzan.

Mr. Tonse graduated from Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangaluru, and did his postgraduation from School of Information Sciences, Manipal University. He is heading the company Tonse Technologies located at the Manipal University Technology Business Incubator (MUTBI) here, which has developed the app. Mr. Karkala, a creative analyst, who has done Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, is leading this project.

The current features in the app include special supplications throughout Ramzan and the year, prayer timings according to location, location of nearby masjids, fasting guide and benefits.

“Our target audience will be those who are religious and tech-savy, adding to the apps of lifestyle segment. One feature to be included soon would be availability of the holy book Quran in several local languages,” Mr. Tonse said.

“We wanted to do something new. This is what we thought of as there various apps related to Quran in the mobile software. But we wanted to develop an app which has all features together including Quran and Dua’s related to Ramzan and Hadith,” said Mr. Karkala said. The team that developed the app are: Prashant A., Director, TTech, eRamadan Mentor; Mr. Tonse, CEO, TTech, eRamadan Head; Mr. Karkala, Creative Analyst, TTech, eRamadan Lead; Hariharan, Server Architect, TTech, eRamadan WebApp and Naresh Shetty and Mahesh Hande, Technical Leads, MCA from Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), eRamadan mApp.
