Two killed, 3 injured in accident near Nagamangala

The mangled remains of the car that dashed against a truck at Govindaghatta on the National Highway 75 of Nagamangala taluk in Mandya district on Saturday.

A granite businessman and his mother-in-law were killed and four persons were injured when the in which they were travelling dashed against a lorry from behind at Govindaghatta on National Highway 75 in Nagamangala on Saturday morning.

The police gave he names of the victims as Harichandra Kaverigounder (47) and Valliyama (50).

Radhika Harichandra (30), her son H. Ganesh (12), daughter H. Haripriya (8) and Valliyamma’s son R. Anand (28) sustained injuries and were rushed to a private hospital in Bellur, near Nagamangala.

The victims, all residents of BEL Layout in Bengaluru and natives of Pennagaram near Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu, were on their way to Dharmasthala, when their car hit the iron pipes/rods-laden lorry near the speed brakers, Savitha Hugar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nagamangala subdivision, told

‘Lost control’

Mr. Harichandra, lost control over the vehicle and hit the lorry, the police said.

Nevertheless, according to the victims, the accident occurred when the lorry driver applied the brake suddenly, near the road humps.

“We have detained the lorry driver, Jagadish from Chikkamagalur,” Ms. Hugar said.
