Two people were killed on-the-spot and one person sustained serious injuries in a hit-and-run case near Dwaralu Bridge in Sira taluk in the district on Tuesday.
Police officials have identified the deceased as Venkatesh (24), Shiva (26) and the injured person is Yasin (25). All are residents of Hiriyur in Chitradurga. The injured has been shifted to NIMHANS in Bengaluru.
The three were travelling together in one motorcycle from Sira to Hiriyur when a lorry hit the motorcycle killing two persons on the spot and injuring one person on NH-48 around 3.30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The lorry sped away after the accident. The driver abandoned the lorry and is absconding. The lorry was found around 3 k.m. away from the accident spot. Police officials have seized the vehicle.
A case has been registered in Tavarekere police station.
